Holden Group C VK Commodore 1984 Bathurst Winner

It was Peter Brock and the Holden Dealer Team that pioneered the development of the early VB Commodore under the supervision of team boss John Sheppard, It was fitting that it was Brock who would drive to victory in the last of the Group C endurance races.
Brock went on to win the Surfers Paradise endurance round to claim three wins from three starts in the 05 car. Brock, HDT and Holden gave Group C a memorable send off. The all-conquering day glow orange cars were not only built light and fast but looked awesome as well. They were a fitting tribute to the Commodore that ruled the track and excited the fans for more than a decade. The Big Banger is truly etched in Australian Motoring History.

Holden Group C VK Commodore 1984 Bathurst 2nd Place

The last Great Race for the spectacular Group C category was held in 1984. It was the final year for these famous touring cars which were to be replaced because of the new FIA rules in 1985. HDT’s publicity posters summed it all up as they boasted “The Last of The Big Bangers”.  Rightfully the 1984 James Hardie 1000 had the biggest Group C class ever seen on the mountain, 48 cars from seven different makers.
Brock put on the brakes and crawled around the circuit waiting for Parsons to catch up. Finally, down Conrod Straight the two all-conquering ‘day glow orange' cars were racing together, the television was capturing this historic event and the crowd counting down every second to the famous one-two finish.

1974 Holden LJ Torana GTR XU-1 Touring Car Championship Winner

Scale: 1:18

The 1974 Australian Touring Car Championship promised great things.
Alan Moffat and Ford were in a strong position following their performance in the 1973 season and at the same time the Holden Dealer Team Torana LJ XU-1 and Peter Brock proved to be the rising strength. Alan Moffat, still fast and without factory help, was forecast as the biggest challenge to Brock and HDT. There were many promising privateers racing, like Bob Morris, Dick Johnson and Bob Jane; most in XU-1's, so Holden's presence on the starting grid in 1974 overwhelmed Ford. In fact only two Fords 'of any model' were on the Symmons Plains starting grid. So it's not surprising Toranas dominated the 1974 ATCC. Peter Brock was to have an outstanding year, taking pole position and setting fastest the race lap many times throughout the season. One of pure domination, Peter Brock and the HDT won five of the seven rounds, an amazing achievement earning him the Championship title in 1974.
